![]() ![]() Sea Sick Steve isn't a personal favourite, he seems to have been promoted far beyond his actual talent, but he is no fool. Those things are well known to be awesome blues guitars. That gear is his tone, lets face it play any boogie song with that set up and it would sound awesome. If it's not about gear, then why is he playing one of the most well know setups for this kind of music. I don't want to contridict what you are saying, but you can clearly see that guitar is some "Sears Special" a Harmony Rocket or similar with an awesome de armond foil pickup in it. I am aware wrap arounds are a brilliant design, simple and effective, but can they intonation correctly various tunings and string gauges? Which Les Paul has the best scale for slide? I'm aware my favourite slide player Elmore James used incredibly hot De Armond pickups wired into a Kay Acoustic so it would be hard to get those tones from a Solid Body and normal p90s or PAFs, but what would get closest? Imagine a pickup that is hot, microphonic, but without too much brightness. Which Les Pauls come with the best pickups for that old blues overdriven sound. ![]() I'm more looking for a tone based answer then a gadget based one. Basically my thoughts were which Les Paul model has the right pickups, neck and bridge for slide. I can't stand the modern Gibson offerings outside their reissues so a Robot or That other red monstrosity would be out of the question. So that throws those two idea out the window. I can tune a guitar myself and I think SGs are so ugly I understand why Les Paul took his name off them. ![]()
